One of the most popular tourist’s destination and icon of photography, it is located in Tabanan about 20 minutes from Denpasar on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.
Pura Tanah Lot literally translates to «Land In The Sea» in the Balinese language. It is one of the seven Balinese sea temples around the Balinese coast. Each of the sea temples was established within eyesight of the next to form a chain along the south-western coast.
According to Balinese mythology, there are venomous sea snakes at the temple base, believed to be protecting the temple from evil spirits and intruders. The best time to visit the temple is during sunset with the temple silhouette against a breathtaking background of gold, pink and purple.
